Who Will Enter Saqar (Hellfire) According to the Quran?

  • by

The Quran explicitly mentions **Saqar** as a level or name of Hellfire in **Surah Al-Muddathir (Chapter 74)**. The verses describe the traits of those destined for this punishment:—###

1. **Those Who Neglect Prayer** **Surah Al-Muddathir 74:42-43** states: *“What has caused you to enter Saqar?” They will reply, “We were not of those who prayed.”* Neglecting obligatory prayers (Salah) is emphasized as a key reason for entering Saqar.—###

2. **Those Who Refuse to Feed the Poor** The same verses continue: *“Nor did we feed the poor.”* (74:44) Failing to fulfill social responsibilities, such as charity (Zakat) or helping the needy, is condemned.—###

3. **Those Indulging in Vain Talk and Falsehood** *“We used to indulge in ˹falsehood˺ along with others.”* (74:45) Engaging in gossip, sinful acts, or wasting time on trivial matters leads to this fate.—###

4. **Those Who Deny the Day of Judgment** *“And we used to deny the Day of Judgment.”* (74:46) Rejecting the belief in resurrection, accountability, and the Hereafter is a grave sin.—###

5. **Those Who Reject the Quran’s Warnings** **Verses 74:49-50** question: *“What is wrong with them that they turn away from the reminder ˹of the Quran˺, as if they were panicked donkeys…?”* Arrogantly ignoring divine guidance and refusing to reflect on the Quran’s message leads to punishment.—###

Features of Saqar: – **Surah Al-Muddathir 74:26-30** describes Saqar as a blazing fire that “leaves nothing and spares no one,” guarded by **nineteen keepers** (angels of punishment). – It is reserved for those who persistently reject truth and indulge in sin without repentance.—###

Summary: Saqar is a severe punishment for those who: – Abandon prayers and worship. – Neglect the poor and social duties. – Engage in falsehood and distractions. – Deny the Hereafter and divine warnings. – Arrogantly reject the Quran’s guidance. These verses serve as a reminder for Muslims to uphold prayer, charity, truthfulness, and faith in the Hereafter. Scholars note that Saqar may refer to a specific level of Hell or symbolize Hell’s intensity, but its core message is a call to righteousness and accountability. **
